GERALDTON, ON – News – A 22-year-old driver from Meadow Brook, New Brunswick is facing multiple charges after being caught stunt driving at nearly double the speed limit on Highway 11 near Geraldton.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at approximately 8:56 p.m., a Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducting patrols in the Township of Greenstone observed a vehicle travelling at 153 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and an investigation followed.

As a result, the driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with the following offences:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt (Excessive Speed)

  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Permit

In accordance with Ontario’s stunt driving legislation, the driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton on August 12, 2025.

Stunt Driving: What It Means and Why It Matters

Under Ontario law, stunt driving includes any activity where a driver exceeds the speed limit by 40 km/h or more where the limit is under 80 km/h, or by 50 km/h or more where the speed limit is 80 km/h or higher. It can also include dangerous maneuvers such as street racing, popping wheelies, or weaving through traffic.

Penalties for stunt driving in Ontario can include:

  • Immediate roadside licence suspension (30 days)

  • Immediate vehicle impoundment (14 days)

  • Fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000

  • Potential imprisonment of up to six months

  • A conviction that can result in a 6 demerit point penalty and possible insurance rate increases

The OPP is reminding all motorists to follow posted speed limits and drive responsibly.

“High speeds reduce reaction times and increase the severity of collisions,” stated the OPP. “Stunt driving is reckless and puts everyone on the road in danger.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report unsafe driving behaviours — including stunt driving, impaired driving, and road racing — by calling 911 in emergencies, or 1-888-310-1122 for non-emergency situations.
