OPP charges 24-year-old Kenora man with indignity to a dead body as search continues for the remains of 21-year-old Mekhi Pelly (Scott)

KENORA, Ont. — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a Kenora resident previously reported missing has been confirmed deceased, and one person has been arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.

Mekhi Pelly (Scott), 21, of Grassy Narrows First Nation, was reported missing to the Kenora OPP on Sunday, October 26, 2025. He was last seen in Kenora between Friday, October 10 and Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Following an OPP investigation, the victim has been confirmed deceased. Search efforts remain ongoing to locate his remains.

Charge Laid; Court Appearance

Terrance Cherry, 24, of Kenora, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Indignity to a dead body, contrary to Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Investigation Continues

The case is being led by the Kenora OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Assisting units include the OPP Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team, and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora Makwa Patrol, and community members are also aiding in the search.
