Thunder Bay Police Investigate Dawson Road Assault; Woman Taken to Hospital
THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Police Service officers are investigating an assault reported on Dawson Road on the city’s north side that sent a woman to hospital.
Police say officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Dawson Road during the afternoon of Aug. 15, 2026. A woman was located at the scene and transported to a Thunder Bay hospital for treatment of injuries.
Major Crime Unit Takes Over Investigation
The Thunder Bay Police Service Major Crime Unit has become involved in the ongoing investigation.
Police have not released information about the nature or severity of the woman’s injuries, the circumstances leading to the assault or whether investigators have identified a suspect.
Investigators say they do not believe there is a risk to public safety at this time.
No Charges Announced
As of Aug. 17, Thunder Bay Police have not announced any arrests or criminal charges in connection with the investigation.
Because no charges have been laid or disclosed, there are currently no specific Criminal Code charges or potential sentencing ranges to detail. While assault offences can fall under several sections of the Criminal Code of Canada, the applicable section depends on the evidence and circumstances, including the nature of any injuries and whether a weapon was involved.
No accused person has been identified by police. Any person who may later be charged in connection with the investigation would be presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Investigation Remains Active
Police have released no further information at this stage.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Thunder Bay Police say updates will be provided when additional information becomes available.
The incident remains of local concern given Dawson Road’s role as a busy commercial and residential corridor connecting the north end of Thunder Bay with neighbourhoods and routes toward Highway 11/17. There have been a number of stabbings and assaults in the area in recent years, as well as several homicides.
