SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON — Regional News – The Sioux Lookout Municipal Airport is set to introduce new security enhancements this June, with terminal upgrades aimed at improving passenger safety and streamlining the boarding process.

Starting Thursday, June 12, a section of the current departure area will be converted into a secure hold room, where passengers will undergo pre-boarding screening. This change is part of a broader effort to boost on-time performance for flights and align with modern aviation security standards.

Screening Comes Before Boarding to Boost Efficiency

The addition of a secure hold room means that passenger screening will occur prior to entering the boarding area, rather than at the gate. This adjustment is expected to reduce boarding delays, helping airlines maintain tighter schedules.

“In partnership with the airlines, these additional security measures are meant to ensure safe and efficient travel for all passengers,” said Ben Hancharuk, Airport Manager.

What Passengers Need to Know

Travellers flying through Sioux Lookout are encouraged to:

  • Confirm check-in times and procedures with their airline

  • Arrive early to allow for the new screening process

  • Be patient as staff and passengers adjust to the updated system

The airport team asks for cooperation during the transition as they work to implement a more secure and passenger-friendly travel experience.
