Fort Severn First NationFORT SEVERN – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Fort Severn Washaho Cree Nation. There is also a special weather statement in effect for Peawanuck.

There is a storm system which has tracked across the northern parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba in recent days. This storm is a part of that system.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Fort Severn

Snowfall, with total amounts near 15 cm is expected tonight.

Snow is expected to develop this afternoon and intensify through the evening. The heaviest snow is expected to fall late this evening and into the overnight hours. Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm are expected by Tuesday morning.

In addition, the freshly fallen snow will combine with strong southeasterly winds gusting to 50 km/h to result in local blowing snow tonight.

Periods of snow along with local blowing snow will continue through the day Tuesday however the snow will be significantly lighter.

This snow is the result of a low-pressure system that will track over the area Tuesday morning.

  • Peawanuck

Snowfall, with total amounts near 10 cm is expected tonight.

Snow is expected to develop early this evening and intensify through the evening. Snow may be heavy at times overnight. Total snowfall amounts near 10 cm are expected by Tuesday morning.

The weather could impact flights in an out of northern communities. If you are flying today it is likely a good idea to check with your air service provider.
