THUNDER BAY – Wildfire Update – There were 10 new fires confirmed in the Northwest Region between May 19 and the evening of May 24 in the districts of Dryden, Kenora, Nipigon, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Thunder Bay.

There were three new fires on May 19, two new fires on May 20, one new fire on May 21, no new fires on the Victoria Day Monday and the next day. There were three new fires on Wednesday, May 24 and one new fire by the evening of May 25 in the region.

Four fires remain active in the Nipigon and Red Lake Districts, the remainder have been put out.

The forest fire hazard is high in the western and central regional sectors but there may be some relief with rain in the forecast.
