OPP Trying to ID Human Remains

BRIGHTON – The Ontario Provincial Police are looking for public assistance.

On Wednesday September 11, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine and Crime Unit members were sent to Gull Island, part of Presqu’ile Provincial Park in Brighton, Ontario where park staff had located suspected human remains.

OPP investigators in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, are continuing to investigate human remains found on Gull Island. Specifically, a left foot in a size 11 women’s running shoe was found on the north shore of the island. The shoe is described as a high-end Mizuno brand and is grey, iridescent purple and pink in colour. (See attached photo). Investigators are awaiting results of further forensic testing on the foot and shoe.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may be able to identify with this item in any capacity. According to the manufacturer, the footwear is a “Lifestyle Class” shoe but may be used for running.

The OPP will be providing video footage of the shoe and the scene on line at www.opp.ca with further links in efforts to engage the public in assisting with information in this incident.
