THUNDER BAY — Mainly sunny skies and a high of 25 C are forecast for Wednesday, Aug. 5, as the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition opens for its 2026 run. Conditions should be favourable for fairgoers, although gusty southwest winds and a high UV index will require some preparation.
At 6 a.m., Thunder Bay Airport reported mainly clear skies and a temperature of 8.7 C. Humidity was 100 per cent, with a west-northwest wind at 5 km/h and visibility of 32 kilometres.

Sunshine will give way to a mix of sun and cloud near noon. Southwest winds will increase to 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, late in the morning before becoming light during the afternoon.
The high will reach 25 C, with a humidex of 27. The UV index will be 6, or high, meaning sunscreen, hats and access to shade will be important for people spending several hours outdoors.
The Canadian Lakehead Exhibition fairgrounds are scheduled to operate from noon to midnight at 425 Northern Ave. The fair runs from Aug. 5 to 9 and includes rides, midway games, food vendors and live entertainment.

Hypnotist Corrie J is scheduled to perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Undercover Legends of Rock will follow from 9:30 to 11 p.m. Both performances are listed for the fairgrounds.
Evening weather should be comfortable for the performances. Skies will be partly cloudy before becoming clear near midnight, with an overnight low of 11 C. A light jacket may be useful once the temperature drops.

Thursday will begin sunny before cloud increases late in the afternoon. Southwest winds will reach 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, during the morning.
The high will be 27 C, with a humidex of 32 and a UV index of 7, or high. Thursday night will have cloudy periods and a 30 per cent chance of showers, with a low of 15 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is forecast Friday, with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 25 C.
Cloudy periods and a 30 per cent chance of showers are expected Friday night. The overnight low will be 12 C.
Fairground and Travel Outlook
Wednesday offers the best weather of the three-day period for attending the CLE. The main concerns will be the high UV index and gusty winds before the afternoon.
Drivers should expect increased traffic around Northern Avenue, May Street and the CLE grounds. Fairgoers should allow extra travel time, secure loose hats or lightweight belongings and carry water during the warmer afternoon hours.
