Free updates for the EOS C400, C80, C50 and R5 C will expand colour control, high-frame-rate autofocus and accessory support
THUNDER BAY – PHOTO TECH – Canon has announced a substantial Cinema EOS firmware package scheduled for December 17, 2026.
The update targets professional production workflows across the EOS C400, C80, C50 and R5 C, although individual features vary by model.
The C400, C80 and C50 will receive Multi Matrix, a colour-correction tool that divides the image into 16 or 32 hue axes. Operators can adjust the hue and saturation of individual colour regions, helping broadcast and commercial crews reproduce team colours, products and other critical shades without changing the entire image.
Autofocus support during Slow & Fast Motion recording will expand on the C400 and C80 to include 72p, 75p, 90p and 96p settings. The C50 will gain continuous external audio monitoring while standing by in Slow & Fast Motion mode, plus flash support in its still-photo mode.
Canon is also expanding the detailed display mode on the C400, C80 and C50 to show Base ISO, clip filename and fan mode. Updated camera-vision metadata will include standardized zoom and focus encoder values for compatible virtual-production systems.
All four cameras will support Canon’s forthcoming DM-E10D microphone, scheduled for late December in Japan. The C50 and R5 C will also support the TC-N3 and TC-E3 timer remotes, expected in late January 2027.
The firmware will be free. Canon’s announcement applies specifically to Japan; international release dates, accessory prices and regional availability have not yet been confirmed.
