Maisonneuve Rides Perfect Night to First PBR Canada Cup Series Win in Brandon

BRANDON, Man. — National Sports  –  Jeremy Maisonneuve came into Brandon looking for a breakthrough. He left with the spotlight, the buckle and a major jump in the national title race.

The 19-year-old from Val-des-Monts, Que., went a perfect three-for-three Saturday night at the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out, winning his first career PBR Canada Cup Series event in front of a sold-out crowd at Assiniboine Credit Union Place.

Perfect Three-Ride Performance Powers Maisonneuve to Victory

Maisonneuve set the tone early, covering Effective from Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch for 85.2 points in Round 1.

Then came Round 2, and the young gun kept his foot on the gas. Maisonneuve rode Linebacker from Skori Bucking Bulls for 86.2 points, putting himself second on the event leaderboard and sending him into the championship round with momentum on his side.

That is where the night turned into a statement.

Maisonneuve selected Moonwalk from Thompson Rodeo Livestock, a bull that had already beaten him once this season. In late January at the Cup Series opener in Red Deer, Alta., Moonwalk threw Maisonneuve in just 3.96 seconds.

This time, the Quebec rider had the answer.

Maisonneuve made the eight-second whistle with authority, earning an event-best 89.7 points and locking down the victory.

Huge Move in the National Standings

The win gave Maisonneuve 143.5 national points and launched him from No. 12 to No. 2 in the race for the 2026 PBR Canada Championship.

He now trails national leader Nick Tetz of Calgary by 234 points.

Tetz, a two-time PBR Canada champion, had a rare off night in Brandon. He went zero-for-two, bucked off by Pay Day in 6.47 seconds in Round 1 and by Diggin Up Bones in 4.21 seconds in Round 2.

Roy Shines in PBR Canada Debut

Jayden Roy of Mascouche, Que., made sure fans remembered his name.

The 18-year-old finished second in his PBR Canada debut after opening the event with the top score of Round 1, riding Linebacker for 86.8 points. He followed that with an 86.1-point ride on Thunder Down Under in Round 2.

Roy’s bid for a storybook win ended in the championship round when 2024 PBR Canada Bull of the Year Grand Funk bucked him off in 3.56 seconds.

Still, Roy earned 94 national points and moved from unranked to No. 13 in Canada.

Santana, Green and Costa Round Out the Top Five

Gilmar Santana of Ouro Preto, Brazil, finished third after covering Affairs In Order for 85 points and Joker On A Jack for 86.2 points before being bucked off by More or Less in the final round.

Santana earned 70.5 national points and moved to No. 16 in Canada.

Garrett Green of Meeting Creek, Alta., placed fourth. The veteran rider picked up 50 national points after scoring 83.5 points on Counting Sheep and 85.8 points on Surprise Twist. His final-round push ended when Rorketon Ripper bucked him off in 4.06 seconds.
Green climbed from No. 6 to No. 3 in the national standings.

Francisco Costa of Humaita, Brazil, rounded out the top five. Costa covered Joker On A Jack for 83.4 points and Patiently Waiting for 84.8 points before Wild Time ended his run in 2.49 seconds in the championship round.

Grand Funk Wins Bull of the Event

In the bull pen, Grand Funk delivered the night’s top animal-athlete performance.
The powerful Kinky Buckers standout was named the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event after earning 44.5 points for his championship-round buckoff of Roy.

National Sports Impact

For Canadian bull riding, Brandon delivered a jolt to the 2026 title race.

Maisonneuve’s win tightens the chase behind Tetz and gives Quebec two young riders — Maisonneuve and Roy — with major momentum early in the season. With Green also moving into third, the Canadian standings are suddenly crowded near the top.

The PBR Canada Cup Series now shifts to Hamilton, Ont., where the PBR Hamilton Classic is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at TD Coliseum. Action begins at 7 p.m. ET.
