KENORA – WEATHER – Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region are starting Easter Monday with a hard edge of winter still in the air. Mother Nature seems determined to let “Old Man Winter” hang around well after for most of us he has long worn out his welcome.
At 6:00 AM CDT, conditions at Kenora Airport were mainly clear and -11.5°C, with pressure at 103.3 kPa and rising, humidity at 57 percent, a north wind at 17 km/h, and a wind chill of -19. Visibility was a wide-open 32 kilometres, and Environment Canada’s hourly page showed no alerts in effect for the area Monday morning.
Today’s Weather Overview
Current Conditions
This is a cold, dry-feeling start that still bites. Environment Canada says Monday will turn cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of flurries early this morning, then northwest wind increasing to 20 km/h gusting to 40 late this morning. The forecast high is only -6°C, with wind chills near -19 this morning and -14 this afternoon. Hourly guidance shows cloudy skies through much of the morning, with temperatures holding near -11°C before slowly improving later in the day.
Extended Weather Forecast
Expected Conditions
Tonight looks cold but quieter. Environment Canada calls for clear skies, with the northwest wind easing this evening and a low of -15°C. Wind chill values are expected to fall to around -18 overnight, so it will still feel sharply cold after sunset.
Tuesday, April 7 starts bright, then begins to shift. The forecast calls for sunny skies with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon, a high of -2°C, and a morning wind chill again near -19 before improving to around -7 later in the day. Tuesday night then turns more active, with periods of snow expected and a low of -3°C.
Wednesday keeps that unsettled pattern going, with periods of snow and a high of 1°C, followed by a 60 percent chance of flurries Wednesday night and a low of -5°C. Thursday stays cloudy with a high of 1°C, while Friday jumps to a much milder 6°C under cloudy skies. By Saturday, Kenora reaches a more spring-like 9°C with a mix of sun and cloud, before Sunday settles back to cloudy and 7°C.
Travel Outlook
There are no active alerts this morning, but the cold still matters. Early-day wind chills near -19, combined with gusty northwest winds later this morning, mean exposed roads, parking lots, and sidewalks can still feel harsh and stay slick in spots. That caution is an inference based on the sub-freezing temperatures, wind chill, and wind forecast.
Wardrobe Recommendations
This is still full winter-coat weather for the Monday morning run. Gloves, a hat, and insulated footwear make sense with wind chills in the upper minus teens. Tuesday afternoon should feel a little less severe, but not mild, and the return of snow Tuesday night means winter gear stays in the rotation for at least a few more days.
Weather Trivia
Kenora’s normals on Environment Canada’s forecast page are 7°C for the daytime high and -3°C for the overnight low, so Monday’s forecast high of -6°C is a long way below where early April would ideally like to be. The good news is that the back half of the week trends closer to spring, especially by Friday and Saturday.
Weather Summary: Kenora and Lake of the Woods weather for April 6, 2026: a bitter start near -12°C and wind chill near -19, no active alerts, flurry risk Monday, then snow returns Tuesday night before milder air arrives later in the week.
