THUNDER BAY / TERRACE BAY – NEWS – There is a story of terror and heroism that sources tell NetNewsLedger in relation to the arrest of the suspect wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in Thunder Bay on October 31, 2025.
The suspect, who was charged with Second-Degree Murder and Break-and-Enter wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing in Thunder Bay on October 31, 2025, was captured in Terrace Bay after allegedly breaking into a home and attacking two residents.

After the murder on College Street, apparently the suspect fled east along Highway 17 and forced entry into a home near Terrace Bay.
Inside that residence was a 17-year-old girl, who was home alone.
Sources tell NetNewsLedger that she heard glass breaking as the suspect broke into the home, and hid in a closet. She then managed to send a group message to her family, urging them to call 911.
Her grandmother quickly responded and enlisted the help of a nearby neighbour.
The neighbour, again according to sources talking to NetNewsLedger, forced entry into the house and was immediately confronted by the suspect, who was allegedly armed with two knives.
Shortly after, the girl’s grandfather arrived.
A violent confrontation ensued, during which the suspect attacked. The neighbour was seriously injured, sustaining multiple cuts. The grandfather, acting in self-defense, was able to stab and disarm the suspect. Together, they restrained the man until OPP officers from Schreiber arrived on the scene.
All individuals involved, including the suspect, were treated at the local hospital in Terrace Bay.
The suspect, according to those familiar with the case, had been released from jail just two days earlier, though it remains unclear whether he was out on bail or had completed a sentence.
Rural Response and Community Courage
This incident highlights the risks small communities face with long emergency response times and limited local law enforcement coverage. In this case, quick thinking by a teenager and the courageous intervention of family members and a neighbour likely prevented further tragedy.
On Tuesday, November 4, the suspect, Dwayne FERRIS, 24, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Murder and Break-and-Enter.
There is no word at this time if FERRIS will face additional charges from the break and enter and aggravated assault, or other charges in relation to the incidents reported here.
Ferris appeared in court on November 5 and has been remanded to custody.
