DALLAS – On July 4, 2025 in Texas, as a result of heavy rains a fast-moving flash flood on the Guadalupe River started early Friday. This wall of water ended up sweeping away homes, vehicles, and campers.
By Monday, July 7th, 82 people were confirmed dead, including 28 children, as rescue teams continued recovering bodies and searching for survivors .
Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Rescuers—including boats, helicopters, drones, and over 400 first responders—have saved more than 850 people so far.
Flash-flood watches remain in effect across central Texas, and more heavy rain is expected, raising the risk of new flash flooding.
Missing from Camp Mystic
Officials are searching for 10 girls and one counsellor missing from Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp near Hunt, Kerr County. At least four campers from the camp have been found dead.
In total, up to 41 people remain unaccounted for statewide .
What’s Next
Authorities are facing scrutiny over whether flood warnings and preparedness measures were adequate. Kerr County lacked an outdoor alert system despite repeated warnings. Officials also acknowledge the challenge in accurately counting missing persons during peak holiday travel in “Flash Flood Alley”
