THUNDER BAY – POLITICS – Thunder Bay has its first person coming forward to declare their intention to seek the top chair around the Council Chamber.
Maureen “Moe” Comuzzi announced today.
Here is her announcement:
My story starts right here in Thunder Bay — with family, hard work, and a dream.
My name is Moe Comuzzi.
At 21 years old, I took a chance and opened one of Thunder Bay’s first fine dining restaurants, Giorg Ristorante — named after my father. He worked in the automobile business, but he always dreamed of owning a restaurant.
Sadly, he never lived long enough to see that dream come true.
But his dream inspired mine — and it’s a path I’ve been walking ever since.
Over the years, I’ve built and operated businesses in the restaurant, automotive, and real estate industries. Today, I work as a broker with Royal LePage Lannon Realty — and I’ve created jobs, built businesses, and worked through challenges in the restaurant and automotive industries, including strengthening struggling operations.
These experiences have taught me what it takes to lead — how to manage budgets, bring people together, solve problems, and deliver results.
I’ve also always believed in giving back.
I’ve served our community in many ways — at community tables, in the boardroom, and in public life. I didn’t enter public life — I chose it.
I studied Political Science at Lakehead University because I wanted to understand how government works, and how it should work for the people.
That’s why I stepped forward to run federally. While I wasn’t successful, the experience deepened my understanding of the challenges we face and strengthened my commitment to this community.
Because this is home — and it always will be.
And I believe the best decisions for Thunder Bay are made right here, in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, indigenous partnerships and the private sector.
That’s why today, I am proud to announce that I am running for Mayor of Thunder Bay.
I’m not coming forward with a wish list. Thunder Bay already has a path forward. The Smart Growth Action Plan — unanimously approved by council and developed by John Collin and the task force — is well underway.
What it needs now is leadership — and the willingness to act.
I’ve focused my career on building businesses, creating jobs, managing budgets, and working with people to get things done.
Thunder Bay deserves a leader who knows this city, who believes in this city, and who loves this city, and has the experience to move it forward.
My roots here run deep. I understand the challenges our businesses face, the pressures on our community, and the opportunities in front of us.
I’m ready to get to work — and I’m ready to get results for all of us.
My name is Moe Comuzzi — and I would be honored to earn your trust as your next Mayor for Thunder Bay.
