Wildfire Update

Overview of the Northwest Region

  • 11 new wildland fires confirmed by this evening.

  • Total of 34 active fires now reported:

    • 🔥 12 not under control

    • ⚠️ 3 being held

    • 4 under control

    • 🔍 15 being monitored

  • Eight new calls were made in the past 24 hours.

  • Fire hazard levels are primarily moderate to high, with scattered pockets of low and extreme hazard.


New Fires of Note

  1. RED044 – 0.5 ha, being held; 1.3 km NE of Nungesser Rd, west of Pedlar Lake

  2. RED045 – 2.5 ha, active; 8.3 km west of Grist Lake

  3. RED046 – 2.0 ha, active; near Berens River, southeast of Upper Goose Lake

  4. RED047 – 1.0 ha, active; northeast of Coathup Lake

  5. RED048 – 30.0 ha, active; NW of Stout Lake—requires immediate attention

  6. RED049 – 0.7 ha, active; east of McInnis River

  7. RED050 – 0.1 ha, active; west of McInnis River

  8. RED051 – 2.5 ha, active; east of Irwin Lake, near Manitoba border

  9. SLK039 – 0.1 ha, being observed; remote Shinbone Lake area

  10. SLK040 – 0.1 ha, active; near Little Cat Lake

  11. DRY015 – 0.1 ha, active; 4 km east of Vermilion Bay

Fires of Note: Ongoing Incidents

Red Lake 12 (RED012)

  • Now 195,670 hectares and still not under control.

  • Recent rain varied widely—2.5 to 21 mm—reducing fire behavior to low.

  • Current efforts:

    • 23 fire crews working in three divisions along southern and eastern edges

    • Supported by 16 helicopters, including 2 heavy-lift helicopters

    • Crews continue hose and pump patrols targeting smouldering hotspots

Sioux Lookout 18 (SLK018) – Cat Lake First Nation

  • Remains 23,648 hectares, with minimal fire activity.

  • Weather report: intermittent thunderstorms through the afternoon.

  • Crews coordinated with air support for equipment slinging to Cat Lake Airport.

  • Further rain and isolated storms expected Monday.

  • With celebrations ahead, remember fireworks can trigger wildfires.

  • You’re responsible for damages and firefighting costs if your fireworks spark a fire.

  • Consider attending organised displays instead of DIY sets.

No Drone Zone

  • Drone flights near fires are illegal and risk obstructing aircraft & ground crews.

  • Please avoid airspace above all active fire areas.
