Cloudy Start with a Rainy Finish in Store for Sunday

SIOUX LOOKOUT – WEATHER UPDATE – The clouds are thick over Sioux Lookout this morning, and the air has that unmistakable pre-storm heaviness. As of 5:00 AM CDT, the temperature sits at 12°C, with an east wind blowing at 18 km/h and gusting up to 28 km/h, steadily picking up momentum. Humidity is sitting at a muggy 94%, and barometric pressure is rising at 101.2 kPa, signaling an incoming weather shift. Visibility remains good at 24 kilometres, though raindrops are waiting in the wings.

Showers and Storms on the Way

Expect cloudy skies to linger through the morning with a 40 percent chance of showers, transitioning into a more sustained rainfall by this afternoon. There’s also a risk of a thunderstorm, and you might want to keep your umbrella and rain boots at the ready—local rainfall amounts could reach between 15 and 25 mm. Winds will swing around from the southeast at 30 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, so if your garbage bins aren’t tied down… they might be heading off on their own adventure.

The afternoon high will reach 20°C, but the humidex will make it feel more like 27°C. Despite the clouds, the UV index will still reach 3, which is moderate—so a little sun protection won’t go amiss between rain bands.

Tonight: Rain, Thunder, and a Muggy Evening

Showers will continue into the evening, and the risk of thunderstorms stays with us through the night. Another 10 to 15 mm of rain is possible. Winds from the southeast will remain strong at 30 km/h, with gusts up to 50 km/h, easing to light overnight. Expect a mild night with a low of 14°C—sticky, but not unbearable.

Monday: Thunder Threat in the Morning, Wind Whips by Noon

The start of the workweek brings a break in the heaviest rain, with showers expected to end early in the day. However, a 60 percent chance of lingering showers remains, along with a risk of morning and early afternoon thunderstorms. Wind will pivot dramatically to come from the west at 40 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h, sweeping away the humidity and making for a breezier, fresher afternoon. The high will rise to 21°C, with a humidex of 26. The UV index shoots up to 8—very high, so bring that sunscreen back into rotation if you’re headed out between storms.

Looking Ahead to Monday Night

Expect cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of showers Monday night and cooler temperatures settling in with a low of 9°C—perfect sleeping weather, if a bit on the cool side.

What to Wear:

Break out the rain jacket and waterproof footwear today, and hold off on any elaborate hairstyles—the humidity and wind have other plans. Monday’s cooler, windier turn may call for a light sweater or windbreaker, especially if you’re out during the stronger gusts.

Weather Trivia:

Sioux Lookout, known as the “Hub of the North,” sits in a prime corridor for storm systems moving across Northwestern Ontario—making it one of the region’s most weather-active locations during summer months.
