Thunder Bay – Letters –It is disturbing to think that half of the council wants to download more of the tax burden onto residential properties and lower the taxes paid by commercial, large industrial and multi -residential property owners.  This is what happened  a week ago when council voted on this motion and the result was a tie vote, (6-6) as one member of council was missing.

Instead of council and administration dealing with the cause of the city’s high taxes  which would include  controlling spending and staffing levels they instead just want to shuffle the deck and make city homeowners pay more which would accomplish nothing in controlling  the city’s high taxes. It will do one thing and that is it will continue to leave many taxpayers with less disposable income.
Council is to vote again on this issue Monday night  when all members of council are expected to be in attendance including Shelby Chung.who was absent at last week’s council meeting.  Concerned homeowners need to contact all members of council and voice their concerns.
Thank you  to councilor Trevor Giertuga for putting forth a motion to keep  the status quo with no extra increases to residential property owners.
Thank-you also to  Andrew Foulds, Mark Bentz, Michael Zussino, Kasey Etreni, and Rajni Agarwal who supported his resolution.
Mayor Ken Boshcoff, Brian Hamilton, Greg Johnsen, Diminic Pasqualino  Albert Aiello and Kristen Oliver did not support Giertiga’s resolution to keep the status quo.
