Accused Remanded into Custody Pending Further Court Appearance

THUNDER BAY – LOCAL CRIME REPORT – Thunder Bay Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with two armed robberies that occurred at the same Simpson Street business just days apart in mid-May.

The first incident occurred on the afternoon of May 15, when officers responded to reports of a robbery in progress. According to investigators, a male suspect wearing a face covering entered the business, brandished a knife, and demanded money from an employee before fleeing the scene.

Just two days later, on May 17, officers were called back to the same location after another robbery. The suspect in the second incident matched the description of the individual from the earlier event, again demanding cash and fleeing prior to police arrival.

BEAR Unit Steps In

The Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit took over the case. Through investigative work, they were able to identify a suspect.

On Tuesday, June 17, officers arrested John Martin RECOLLET, 43, in connection with both incidents.

Charges Laid

RECOLLET has been charged with:

  • Robbery x2

  • Disguise with Intent

He appeared in court on Wednesday, June 18, and was remanded into custody with a future court date scheduled.

The Thunder Bay Police Service commended the swift work of the BEAR Unit and reminded the public that anyone with information about similar incidents can contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
