COMMUNITY NOTICE Forest Fire Update – Saturday, June 7, 2025
Chief and Council wish to inform the community of an active forest fire located approximately 24 kilometres southeast of Wunnumin Lake Airport. The fire is currently estimated at 700 hectares in size.
Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) officials have assessed the fire. We have formally requested immediate waterbomber support, but were informed that all available MNR waterbombers are currently deployed to other forest fire incidents in the region.
An MNR ground crew is expected to arrive tomorrow to conduct a detailed assessment and determine the next steps for managing the fire. At this time, there is no immediate threat to the community, and no evacuation plan has been activated.
Our local MNR representative is monitoring the fire closely and will provide updates as the situation changes.
We ask everyone in the community to remain calm. Please do not spread unnecessary fear, anxiety, or stress.
Chief and Council are working closely with the appropriate agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any member of Chief and Council.
We will continue to keep the community informed as new information becomes available.
