NIPIGON, ON – May 6, 2025 – Members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 156 calls for service between Monday, April 28 and Sunday, May 4, 2025. The week’s activity included a range of traffic, public safety, and enforcement-related incidents throughout the region.

Top Incidents: Traffic Enforcement Dominates

Of the 156 reported occurrences, traffic violations and road safety checks made up the bulk of the calls, including:

  • 63 eTickets issued for vehicle infractions

  • 18 R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program checks

  • 12 traffic complaints

  • 3 traffic hazards (involving vehicles, debris, animals, or pedestrians)

  • 2 traffic enforcement stops under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

  • 3 motor vehicle collisions

These figures highlight the ongoing focus on road safety in the Nipigon area as part of broader OPP enforcement efforts.

Other Notable Occurrences

In addition to traffic-related incidents, OPP responded to:

  • 9 community service events

  • 4 property checks

  • 3 fire calls

  • 3 family disputes

  • 3 Offender Management and Apprehension Program (OMAP) incidents

  • 2 threats and 1 case of intimate partner violence

  • 1 harassment complaint

  • 1 mental health-related call

  • 1 missing person

  • 1 warrant execution

Reports also included instances of trespassing, theft, unwanted persons, and suspicious vehicles.


Citizen Self Reporting Available for Minor Incidents

The OPP is reminding Nipigon residents that not every incident requires an officer at the scene. The Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) system is a secure and convenient way to report non-urgent crimes online from a computer or mobile device.

Eligible for online reporting:

  • Theft Under $5,000

  • Mischief / Damage to Property or Vehicles Under $5,000

  • Lost or Missing Property

  • Stolen License Plates

  • Theft from Vehicles

  • Driving Complaints

CSR is available anytime at www.opp.ca and allows police resources to be better focused on high-priority cases.
