Investigation to focus on death and missing person investigations, and compliance with new policing standards
Thunder BAY – NEWS – October 10, 2024 – Ontario’s Inspector General of Policing, Ryan Teschner, has announced an inspection of the Thunder Bay Police Service following several public complaints. The inspection will evaluate the Service’s handling of death and missing person investigations, with a focus on compliance with the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA), which took effect in April 2024.
In a statement, Teschner emphasized his commitment to ensuring that Thunder Bay residents, including Indigenous communities, receive the “effective, responsive, and accountable policing they deserve.” He further explained that the inspection would also assess how the Thunder Bay Police Service and its governing Board are addressing previous recommendations from oversight bodies.
The Inspectorate of Policing will monitor the Service and Board to ensure compliance with the CSPA and regulations. Inspection findings will be made available on the Inspectorate’s website.
