O.J. Simpson, a figure whose life story encapsulates the dizzying highs of American football stardom and the harrowing depths of legal turmoil, passed away at the age of 76 after a prolonged battle with cancer, as confirmed by his family on social media.

In 1995, Simpson was acquitted of the murder charges of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman, in a court case that riveted and divided the United States.

Despite his acquittal in the criminal court, a civil court later found him liable for their deaths, adding a complex layer to his legal battles and public perception.

Years following his acquittal, Simpson found himself entangled in the legal system once more, this time for his involvement in a 2007 armed robbery in Las Vegas. The incident, which saw Simpson and accomplices attempt to retrieve sports memorabilia at gunpoint, resulted in his 2008 conviction on 12 counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping, leading to a nine-year prison sentence.

Before the whirlwind of legal controversies, Simpson, affectionately known as “The Juice,” was celebrated as one of football’s greatest talents.
