Town of MarathonMARATHON = Welcome to the October E-mail Alert issued by the Town of Marathon.  This is a means for us to provide information of interest to our residents in addition to what can be found on our website, www.marathon.ca, through our radio spots, newspaper advertisements and on Facebook through our Town of Marathon page or on our Marathon Recreation page. If there are any other subjects that you believe would be of interest, please advise the Parks & Recreation office by e-mail at recoffice@marathon.ca and we will include them in future alerts. Council Meeting Schedule:  The October Council meeting will be held Tuesday, October 9 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall.  Agendas and minutes are available on the Town’s website at https://www.marathon.ca/town-hall/council/minutes-and-meetings/ or at the Town Hall during regular office hours.  Please note that any other meetings or notices will be posted at the Town Hall a minimum of 24 hours before the meeting.  For further information, please contact the Deputy Clerk at 229-1340 x2223.  You can now watch Council meetings live via live webcam.

Peninsula Manor:  YOU’RE INVITED!  Please join us for the Grand Opening of Peninsula Manor – Seniors Supportive Living.  Ribbon cutting followed by a BBQ lunch.  October 2, 12:00 p.m.  26 Peninsula Rd. Thanksgiving Holiday:  On Monday, October 8, all Town of Marathon facilities will be closed to commemorate the stat holiday.

Halloween:  On Wednesday, October 31, the Port Hole Pool and Recreation Office will be closed in the evening for Halloween.

Household Hazardous Waste Depot:  Last day will be October 28.  For a list of allowable items, visit the Town of Marathon website at https://www.marathon.ca/town-hall/departments/works-and-operations/garbage-and-recycling/ or contact the Town Office at 229-1340.

Golf Course:  Last day for the Pro Shop will be Monday, October 8.  Members will be permitted to golf around the maintenance staff from Tuesday, October 9 to Friday, October 12 until 3:30 p.m. All clubs should be removed from lockers & carts removed from compound by Friday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m.  See you next season!

Aqua Fitness:  Classes are Sunday and Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Admission is free with a Pool Membership, Fitness Cards can be purchased at $61.20 for 10 classes or drop-in is $7.65.  NEW Deep Water Aqua Jog Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Fitness Boot Camp:  Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lakeview Community Hall starting September 17 and ending October 17.  Fitness Cards can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Office at $61.20 for 10 classes or drop-in is $7.65.  Please bring a mat, water bottle, towel and indoor shoes.

The Great Benjamins Circus:  The Circus will be in Marathon on Tuesday, October 9.  It will be located at the old public school grounds at the end of Stevens Ave.  To purchase tickets and for times visit the website at https://benjaminscircus.com/tc-events/mon-oct-09-marathon-on-430-pm/.

Employment Opportunities:  The Town is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the following positions:

– Port Hole Pool Part-Time Staff – Assistant Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Aquatic Fitness Instructors
– Rink Attendants and Special Events Workers

Town of Marathon Apparel Available:  The Town of Marathon is now making various items of clothing with the Town’s logo available to the general public.  Some of the items available are golf shirts, jackets, hoodies and baseball caps.  The clothing items are currently available at Crossover Video.
