THUNDER BAY –

After more than three successful months as the Interim Dean (Academic) of our Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, Justice Patrick Smith’s last day in this role will be today (Friday, Sept. 14), as he’s required to return to the Superior Court of Justice to resume his responsibilities on the Bench.

We have all been very pleased with everything Justice Smith has achieved during the time he was with us. Working with him has been a privilege and pleasure. His connections and work with our communities have been exceptional. Thanks to his leadership, our Faculty of Law’s program delivery and day-to-day operations are well in hand for the current academic year.

Justice Smith shared that, “It’s been an extremely positive experience being a part of Lakehead University and this Faculty of Law. I have enjoyed a strong and productive relationship with the students, and our faculty and staff, and I take with me the warm feeling that I have become part of the Lakehead family.”

I’d like to thank the Chief Justice of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Justice Heather Smith, for supporting Justice Patrick Smith’s special leave in order to assist Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law.

For the immediate future, I will assume the responsibilities of Interim Dean of the Faculty of Law. Along with support from the Faculty’s Operations Advisor, Scott McCormack, our ongoing work and services for students, faculty, and staff continues.

Finally, our search for the Faculty of Law’s next Dean continues on schedule.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Barnett
Provost & Vice-President (Academic)
