Thunder Bay – The weather has taken a rapid shift. Thunder Bay is headed for fall, and for back to school. One of the exciting steps forward was revealed at Lakehead University. On Wednesday, Lakehead University welcomed a record number of students at this year’s International Orientation.

More than 600 students from approximately 65 countries participated in the orientation held at the Hangar on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

“We are geared up and ready to welcome this year’s new students,” said Nancy Gallo, Director, International Student Services and English Language Centre.

“Our orientation and community service provider fair allow us to connect our newest residents to both the University and life in Northwestern Ontario,” Gallo said.

James Aldridge, Lakehead’s Vice-Provost, International, said the university continues to increase its outreach around the world.

“International students come to Lakehead University because they’ve heard about our exceptional learning environment, the outstanding research opportunities for students and the many social and cultural opportunities our university and community have to offer,” Aldridge said.

“We welcome these students and will do everything possible to assist them in adjusting to life in Thunder Bay,” he said. “We’re thrilled to see another large increase in international students choosing Lakehead and we’re excited that more of our domestic students will be able to study abroad this year.”

Orientation provides an opportunity for students to mingle with each other, and meet representatives from Lakehead University, Lakehead’s Student Union, the Chancellor Paterson Library, the Thunder Bay Police Service, and other important local organizations.
