THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League are proud to announce that three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Sharp of Thunder Bay will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Border Cats final home game against the Duluth Huskies on Sunday, August 9th. Game time at Tbaytel Park at Port Arthur Stadium is 5:05 pm and the finale is also Fan Appreciation Day.

Sharp, who was acquired during the off-season by the Dallas Stars, has plenty of experience on the mound, having thrown out ceremonial pitches for both Chicago teams, the Cubs and White Sox, during his 10-year career with the Blackhawks.

The Cats play the Huskies in the series opener on Saturday, August 8th, at 7:05 pm, with a post-game fireworks show following the final out. The two-game set has been deemed “Pack the Park Weekend” as Duluth has challenged Thunder Bay to fill the stands in the “Border Battle” for the Lake Superior Cup. The Huskies currently lead four games to two, so the Cats will need to sweep the series to retain the trophy as the defending champions.

“Duluth drew over 4,000 fans for its final two home games at Wade Stadium, and we would love to have the same type of atmosphere at our great ballpark this weekend”, stated Border Cats President and General Manager Brad Jorgenson. “Having Patrick Sharp on hand to close out our 13th season will be a great thrill for our fans and the entire Border Cats organization”, added Jorgenson.

The Border Cats ticket office at Tbaytel Park opens Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am.
