Investigators Continue To Piece the Crash Together

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police are continuing their investigation into a serious accident last night. The twenty-two-year old driver of a tanker truck was escorted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center after having a very frightening crash.

At about 9:30PM, last evening (Thursday 05 February 2015) a tanker truck that was southbound on Fort William Road near Intercity Mall unexplainably went out of control and went off the roadway, finally coming to rest firmly against a concrete sign base on Thunder Center property.

Emergency workers and hazardous material clean-up crews were faced with a considerable mess of diesel fuel and vehicle fluids. The cargo was off-loaded to another vehicle before the wreckage could be towed away. It appears that the cargo container remained intact, but there was considerable spillage from the vehicle’s own fuel tanks and engine. The truck appears to be demolished. Clean-up work is complete, but the odour of diesel fuel may be noticed in the area.

Investigation will continue into the cause of the crash.
