THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Thunder Bay once again dominated the trails at Nakkertok Ski Centre for the Eastern Canadian Championships.  NDC Thunder Bay had many finishers in the Top 10 of the Senior Men’s 15 km freestyle event.

Andy Shields was the top finisher placing fourth, just after NDC Thunder Bay Alumni Jack Carlyle. Evan Palmer-Charrette finished 6th, Bob Thompson followed him at 7th, while teammate Ben Wilklinson-Zan narrowly missed the top 10 finishing 11th overall.

They were joined in the top ten by Big Thunder Skier, Adam Kates in 8th, and former NDC Thunder Bay team member Michael Somppi who stepped on the podium again today to claim a silver medal.

NDC’s lone Junior Man, David Askwith, made it into the top ten with a solid 8th place finish.

Once again Jenn Jackson has proven that she is recovered from her recent injury with a strong seventh place finish in the Open Women’s 10 km freestyle event.

Just behind her, teammate Alannah MacLean also made the top ten finishing in 9th place.  Coming off the podium of yesterday’s race, 1st Year NDC Thunder Bay athlete Sadie White finished 8th in today’s Junior Women’s 10 km race.  Honourable mentions also go to Lappe Nordic’s Laura Inkila who finished 7th in the Junior Girl’s 5 km race and Big Thunder’s Fergus Foster, who finished 7th in the Junior Boy’s 7.5 km race.

NDC Thunder Bay will look to be on the podium once again tomorrow during the final event, a Mass Start Classic event.
