Thunder Bay – SPORTS – A combination of low volumes of snow along with the weather forecast for warmer than seasonal temperatures over the coming days has put the annual Sleeping Giant Loppet at risk of cancellation.

Co-ordinator Peter Gallagher says, “Low snow conditions and warm weather forecast for the next two weeks continue to worry us about our ability to host the 2024 Loppet.
“As a result, the early registration and t-shirt order date will be extended to Sunday Feb. 11th. However, if you have not already registered please wait until after Wednesday Feb. 7 at which time a final decision will be made on hosting the event”.
“If we cancel, skiers who have already registered will be refunded in full”.
Gallagher adds, “These are difficult decisions for organizers considering the significant amount of money that has already been spent in preparation for the Loppet”.
