TORONTO – A Thunder Bay Police Constable and three Dryden Police Officers are being awarded the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery. They are part of a group of four firefighters and ten other police officers who are receiving Ontario’s top honours for bravery.

Constable Tom Armstrong of the Thunder Bay Police Service was honored in a ceremony in Toronto.

“It is an honour to present the Ontario Medal for Bravery to these extraordinary police officers and firefighters. Their acts of courage stand as an inspiration to us all,” commented the Honourable David C. Onley Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery and the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery are the province’s highest honours in recognition of firefighters and police officers whose actions demonstrate outstanding courage.

The recipients of the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery are: 

  • Firefighter John Cargoe of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service
  • Firefighter Benjamin LeRoux of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service
  • Firefighter Matthew Richard Monkman of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service
  • Fire Chief Robert Lymburner of the Pelham Fire Services.

The recipients of the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery are:

  • Detective Constable Denise Szachury of the Dryden Police Service
  • Constable Jonathon R. Allen of the Dryden Police Service
  • Constable Terry Menard of the Dryden Police Service
  • Provincial Constable Colleen Benner of the Ontario Provincial Police, Highway Safety Division
  • Provincial Constable Michael Gabriel Ficker of the Ontario Provincial Police, Highway Safety Division
  • Provincial Constable David McLaren of the Ontario Provincial Police, Highway Safety Division
  • Provincial Constable Bryan William Boshold of the Ontario Provincial Police, Bruce Peninsula Detachment
  • Provincial Constable Donald Jon Malott of the Ontario Provincial Police, Bruce Peninsula Detachment
  • Provincial Constable Trevor A. Lamont of the Ontario Provincial Police, Haldimand County Detachment
  • Provincial Constable Scott Moir of the Ontario Provincial Police, Haldimand County Detachment
  • Constable Joanna Styrczula of the Peel Regional Police
  • Constable Alicia McGriskin of the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service
  • Constable Tom Armstrong of the Thunder Bay Police Service
  • Constable Sheraz Arshad of the Toronto Police Service.
