It will allow us to continue to provide quality health care in a state- of-the-art facility. My thanks to the Province of Ontario for supporting this major redevelopment, and special thanks to Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and to our MPP, Bill Mauro for their guidance and support,” says Robert (Bob) Wilson, CEO Atikokan General Hospital.

Ontario is supporting a major redevelopment at Atikokan General Hospital that will give people and families in Atikokan better access to state-of-the-art health care, closer to home.

Planning is underway for a redevelopment project that includes construction and renovations:

  • to redevelop acute care beds, complex continuing care beds,
  • ELDCAP (LTC) beds in order to meet standards for size of rooms,
  • workplace health and safety,
  • infection control and accessibility including an increase in private rooms;
  • to redevelop Emergency Department, Rehabilitation Department and Ambulatory Care area;
  • to upgrade building infrastructure

“By continuing to invest in health infrastructure, we are enabling local community hospitals to provide high quality care close to home. It has been a pleasure working with CEO Bob Wilson to ensure development of this project to help meet the needs of Atikokan for years to come,” enthused Bill Mauro the MPP for Thunder Bay Atikokan.
