THUNDER BAY – “Our Northern Highways Program helps spur economic development and improve safety and the quality of life for northerners. Locally, it is driving the expansion of the Thunder Bay – Nipigon corridor with more than 20 kilometres under construction and exciting new developments like the spectacular Nipigon River Bridge,” stated Michael Gravelle, the MPP for Thunder Bay Superior North.

“Ontario continues to expand and improve highways throughout Northern Ontario, making travel safer and more efficient for residents, visitors and industry, and creating more than 4,000 jobs,” continued Gravelle.

The Northern Highways Program will include new passing lanes, signage and lighting improvements, as well as rehabilitation projects for roads, highways and bridges. Some key projects will continue the expansion of:

  • Highway 11-17 east of Thunder Bay
  • Highway 11 south of North Bay
  • Highway 69 south of Sudbury.

“This is another significant investment in our Northern Highway infrastructure. We are improving the driving experience, building safer roads and creating constructions jobs all at the same time,” shared Bill Mauro, MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
