Carolina matched its team record with nine goals and carried the NHL’s best record into its Global Series trip

Thunder Bay – Hockey Town Update — The Carolina Hurricanes matched a team record for goals in a game and strengthened their grip on first place overall with a 9-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Jordan Martinook and Andrei Svechnikov scored twice each. Sebastian Aho had a goal and two assists, while 15 Carolina skaters recorded at least one point. The Hurricanes improved to 14-3-2 for 30 points, the best total in the NHL after Saturday’s games.

Carolina ended the competitive part of the night quickly. Seth Jarvis and Jackson Blake scored in the opening 3:21, and Martinook added two more goals before the first intermission. Svechnikov and Aho made it 6-0 in the second before Alexander Nikishin scored in his season debut.

Nikishin finished with a goal and an assist after signing a one-year, $3-million contract on Oct. 25. Shayne Gostisbehere and Svechnikov completed the scoring in the third. Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves.

Chicago received goals from Roman Kantserov and Connor Bedard. Kantserov has scored in four straight games and leads NHL rookies with nine goals, but the Blackhawks have lost six in a row and remain winless on the road at 0-8-1.

The Hurricanes have won six straight home games and six of their past seven overall. They have also earned at least one point in 16 consecutive games against Chicago, the longest active point streak by one NHL club against a single opponent.

Carolina now heads to Finland for two Global Series games against the Seattle Kraken on Nov. 12 and 14. The nine-goal performance gives the league leader a commanding sendoff.
