FORT FRANCES — Rainy River District OPP say officers responded on Friday, April 24, 2026, after a vehicle left the roadway on Kings Highway.

Following an investigation, officers determined the driver had allegedly been operating the vehicle while impaired.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
What the Charges Mean
Operation while impaired is a Criminal Code offence involving the operation of a vehicle while a person’s ability is impaired by alcohol, drugs or a combination of both. Penalties can include fines, a driving prohibition, probation and, in more serious cases, jail.
Dangerous operation involves operating a vehicle in a manner that is dangerous to the public, considering the circumstances. Sentences can range from a fine or probation to jail, depending on the facts of the case and any prior record.
Safer Choices Are Available
Police remind drivers not to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs. Safer options include calling a taxi, using U-Ride or another rideshare where available, calling a sober friend or family member, using public transit where available, or arranging a designated driver before drinking.
Presumption of Innocence
None of the allegations have been proven in court. All accused persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is on the road is urged to call 911 immediately.
