Crews arrive to find smoke and flames; no injuries reported

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to a reported garage fire on Shipley Street at 8:50 p.m. on February 24, 2026.

When fire crews arrived, no one was inside the garage. The first unit on scene encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the structure. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, while additional responding units assisted with water supply and overhaul operations to ensure the area was fully extinguished and safe.

Safety reminder: prevent sparks from starting fires

TBFR is reminding the public to take extra precautions when welding or grinding, as sparks can ignite nearby flammable or combustible materials. Keeping work areas clear, having a fire extinguisher close at hand, and monitoring for smouldering debris after work can help reduce the risk of accidental fires.
