Thunder Bay – REGIONAL NEWS – The North West Region OPP is warning motorists across Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Schreiber, Geraldton, and key routes along Highways 11 and 17 to prepare for possibly dangerous winter driving conditions beginning tonight and persisting into the weekend.

Snow squalls, strong winds, and icy road surfaces are expected to reduce visibility and create treacherous driving environments throughout the region.

The Ontario Provincial Police stress that travel should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

🚨 SAFETY TIPS FROM OPP:

  • Slow down and increase distance between vehicles

  • Use full headlights, even during the day

  • Watch for black ice and drifting snow

  • Plan extra time for your journey

  • Stay informed via 511on.ca and weather.gc.ca

Emergency services are standing by. If you’re in immediate danger, dial 911. For non-urgent matters, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
