Thunder Bay – News – October 7, 2025 – Due to recent bear sightings on the trails at Centennial Park, the leash free area of the park will temporarily require all dogs to be on a leash until further notice. Unleashed dogs can surprise bears and cause a defensive attack on dogs and their owners.
It is important to remember that trail users share the forest with all animals that make it their home. Black bears are currently searching for food before their winter hibernation and have been seen in the park more frequently. Please be aware of this when enjoying autumn activities in the park.
If you encounter a black bear, always remember: Stop. Do not panic. Remain calm.
