THUNDER BAY – NEWS – It can feel like nothing nice ends up respected in our city.

Earlier today while conducting routine inspections, staff at Centennial Park discovered that a number of the wood animal carvings at the new playground had been damaged by vandals.

The new playground at Centennial Park hosted its official grand opening less than one month ago, and the carvings provide a visual, tactile and educational welcoming experience for children and families visiting the park.

“It is extremely disappointing. The new play area at Centennial has been very well-received and when you’ve seen how children interact with the carvings and how much joy they bring, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would do such a thing.” says Werner Schwar –Supervisor Parks & Open Space Planning.

City staff are currently investigating repair options.

The incident has been reported to the Thunder Bay Police Service. If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 623-8477 or online at: www.tbdcs.ca
