THUNDER BAY – POLITICS – With Election Day just around the corner, Uride, a locally-founded Canadian rideshare company, is stepping up to make civic engagement more accessible by offering free rides to and from polling stations in Thunder Bay, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Timmins.

Available to all local residents, the initiative covers up to $10 per ride and is designed to eliminate transportation as a barrier to voting—a persistent issue particularly for youth, seniors, and low-income voters.

Canadian Rideshare Company Aims to Remove Barriers to Democratic Participation

“There’s a lot going on in Canada right now, and we want to make sure all Canadians have a chance to have their voice heard,” said Cody Ruberto, Founder and CEO of Uride. “Voting is one of the most important ways to do that.”

Ruberto, a Thunder Bay native, emphasized that even something as simple as a lack of transportation can discourage eligible voters from making it to the polls. With Uride’s offer, the company hopes to empower more residents to take part in shaping their community’s future.

Promo Code ‘VOTETBAY’ Provides Free Rides Up to $10 for Thunder Bay Voters

To take advantage of the offer, Thunder Bay residents simply need to:

  1. Download the Uride app

  2. Set their destination to a local polling station

  3. Enter the promo code “VOTETBAY”

  4. Receive up to $10 off the ride cost

How to get the free ride

To receive a free ride, users must:

  • Download the Uride app.
  • Set their destination to a local polling station.
  • Enter one of the following promo codes:
    • In North Bay: VOTENBAY
    • In Sault Ste. Marie: VOTESSM
    • In Sudbury: VOTESUD
    • In Timmins: VOTETIM
    • In Thunder Bay: VOTETBAY

Those needing assistance can contact Uride by email.

The promotion runs all day on Election Day, ensuring that no one is left behind due to financial or logistical hurdles.

Founder Cody Ruberto: ‘We’re a People Company First’

“At our core, we’re not just a tech company—we’re a people company,” Ruberto said. “And this Election Day, we’re proud to help Canadians show up for each other, and for their future.”

The initiative reflects Uride’s broader commitment to community engagement. The company regularly donates a portion of its monthly ride revenue to local programs and causes.

For residents who may need assistance using the app or securing a ride, Uride offers direct support via email at support@uridetech.com.
