Northwest gusts reach 60 km/h in the city while Kakabeka Falls sees morning showers and a quieter wind; both improve Monday

THUNDER BAY — Issued Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026 – Weather – For Sunday, expect windy conditions. You might need to tie down your kittens, and watch for swaying trees.

The city will enjoy a damp and windy Sunday ahead as northwest winds reach 40 km/h with gusts to 60. Kakabeka Falls also starts with showers, but its forecast gusts are lower at 40 km/h.

The wind and drizzle can make exposed roads, sidewalks and shore-adjacent areas feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Loose recycling, light patio furniture and unsecured construction material should be brought in or tied down.

Sunday  Drizzle and northwest gusts

Thunder Bay is cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the morning, changing to a 30 per cent chance of drizzle in the afternoon.

Northwest winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 ease to 20 km/h with gusts to 40 late in the afternoon. The high is 8 C. A 30 per cent chance of early-evening drizzle ends as skies become partly cloudy near midnight, and the wind becomes light. The low is -2 C.

Kakabeka Falls is mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of morning showers, northwest winds of 20 km/h gusting to 40 and a high near 7 C. Sunday night is quieter, with cloudy periods and a low near -1 C.

Monday  Brighter and unusually mild

Thunder Bay reaches 11 C under a mix of sun and cloud, followed by a clear night near 0 C. Kakabeka Falls also reaches about 11 C with sun and cloud, then clears with a low near -1 C. Roads that remain damp after sunset may develop isolated slippery spots where temperatures dip below freezing.

Tuesday  Cooler air settles in

Thunder Bay sees a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 6 C, then cloudy periods and a low near -4 C Tuesday night. Kakabeka Falls is similar but slightly cooler, with a high near 5 C and a nighttime low near -4 C.

Wardrobe guidance

Wear a wind-resistant waterproof jacket Sunday, and use a hood or snug hat that will stay in place in gusts. Water-resistant shoes are useful during drizzle. Monday needs lighter layers, but a warmer jacket returns to the rotation Tuesday evening.

Weather trivia

Drizzle is made of water drops smaller than ordinary raindrops. It can look light while still leaving roads and sidewalks uniformly wet, especially under low cloud.
