KASABONIKA LAKE FIRST NATION, ON — A male suspect is in police custody following a weapons-related incident that prompted a major police response in Kasabonika Lake First Nation on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) confirms that officers responded to a report of an incident involving weapons at a residence in the remote Northern Ontario First Nation on Saturday afternoon.
When officers arrived, they learned that a male suspect had barricaded himself inside the home. Police confirmed he was the only person inside the residence.
Emergency Response Teams and Crisis Negotiators Deployed
Due to the nature of the incident, additional specialized police resources were brought in to assist local officers.
The response involved members of the NAPS Emergency Response Team, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Northwest Region Emergency Response Team, OPP Crisis Negotiators and the NAPS Crime Unit.
Police have not released details about the weapons involved or the circumstances that led to the suspect barricading himself inside the residence.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Police have not indicated whether any injuries occurred during the incident.
