Red River Road and Court Street Intersection Closing October 13 for Streetscape Work

THUNDER BAY — Drivers travelling through Thunder Bay’s north core should prepare for a temporary closure at Red River Road and Court Street as crews complete work on the City’s multi-year streetscape project.

The intersection will close Tuesday, October 13, for up to one week. Court Street will be closed between Park Avenue and Cooke Street, the City announced October 5.

Crews completing paving, signals and roadwork

The closure will allow crews to finish installing pavers, commission traffic signals and complete roadwork during the final stages of the North Core Streetscape Project.

Motorists should plan an alternate route and allow extra travel time when visiting the area.

Project aims to improve downtown infrastructure and accessibility

The streetscape renewal replaces aging underground infrastructure and road surfaces while improving accessibility, walkability and the appearance of the downtown.

According to the City, the project also aims to support public events and create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors, with pedestrian safety a priority.

The work aligns with Action A3 of Thunder Bay’s Smart Growth Action Plan, which calls for revitalizing the north core.
