
OPP locate suspect vehicle involved in Highway 17 crash west of Schreiber; no injuries reported
SCHREIBER, ON – NEWS – A 25-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing multiple charges under the Highway Traffic Act following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 west of Schreiber on the evening of January 30, 2026.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a reported crash involving a blue GMC Sierra and a white Ford Transit van.
Details of the Collision
Police say the GMC Sierra was traveling eastbound and rounding a curve when the driver encountered a white Ford Transit van that was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer in the oncoming lane. The two vehicles made contact on their passenger sides, after which the Ford Transit continued westbound without stopping.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Investigation and Charges
The Nipigon OPP Detachment later located the suspect vehicle. Investigators matched the Ford Transit van based on collision-related damage and parts found at the scene.
As a result, Himanshu, 25, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, has been charged with the following under the Highway Traffic Act:

Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident – Section 200(1)(a)

Fail to Report an Accident – Section 199(1)

Careless Driving – Section 130(1)

Driver Fail to Wear Seat Belt – Section 106(2)
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
