Northeast Fire Region – June 21, 2025 – 18:30 EDT

Sudbury – Wildfire Update – The Northeast Fire Region saw no new wildland fires confirmed on Saturday, June 21. However, Cochrane 9, located approximately 9 kilometres northwest of the Fort Severn Airport, remains not under control and has expanded to 32 hectares.

As of this update, there are five active fires in the Northeast Region, categorized as follows:

  • 🔥 1 Not Under Control (Cochrane 9)

  • 🟡 1 Being Held

  • 🔍 2 Being Observed

  • ✅ 1 Under Control

Fire Hazard Conditions

The wildland fire hazard currently ranges from low to moderate across most of the region. However, there are pockets of high hazard reported near Timmins, Marten Falls, and Attawapiskat.

Safety Reminder: No Drone Zone

⚠️ Flying drones near wildfires is strictly prohibited. It is dangerous, illegal, and puts the lives of frontline responders and aircraft crews at serious risk. Stay clear, stay safe, and help ensure emergency crews can do their jobs effectively.

Know the Rules for Outdoor Burning

If you are planning to burn yard waste or woody debris:

  • Use alternative methods like composting or disposal at a local landfill whenever possible.

  • Fires must be lit no earlier than two hours before sunset and must be completely extinguished within two hours after sunrise.

  • Always have adequate tools and water on-site to control and fully extinguish your fire.
