Northeast Ontario Wildfire Update: No New Fires, Hazard Levels Vary Across Region

Sudbury – WILDFIRE UPDATE – As of June 18, 2025, there were no new wildland fires confirmed in the Northeast Fire Region, according to Fire Information Officer Evan Lizotte of Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.

At the time of this report (17:45 EDT), there are four active wildland fires in the Northeast:

  • Two are under control

  • Two are being observed


🔥 Current Fire Hazard Levels

The wildland fire hazard ranges from low to high across the region. Conditions can change quickly with weather and wind patterns, so residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor real-time updates via the province’s Interactive Fire Hazard Map.


🚫 Drone Use Near Fires Is Illegal and Dangerous

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services reminds the public that flying drones near wildfires is strictly prohibited. Doing so can jeopardize the safety of aerial and ground crews. Always keep drones away from any active fire scene.


🔥 Outdoor Burning Reminder

With summer burn activity increasing, the ministry is asking all Ontarians to exercise extreme caution when burning yard waste or woody debris. Safer alternatives include:

  • Composting

  • Using local landfills

If burning is absolutely necessary, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations:

  • Fires may be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset

  • Fires must be fully extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise

  • Always have water and tools on hand to control and fully put out the fire
