THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) crews were called to the scene of a structure fire early this morning in the 1000 block of Gore Street West, after a passerby reported black smoke rising from a private residence.
Emergency units were dispatched at approximately 7:00 a.m., with the first TBFR crew arriving quickly to find smoke issuing from the main floor of the home and one injured occupant on site.
Upon arrival, the lead officer declared a working fire and immediately requested a second alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene. The initial pumper crew quickly deployed a hose line and launched an aggressive interior attack, managing to suppress the fire rapidly.
Firefighters also conducted a full search of the residence to ensure no additional occupants were inside.
One individual was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for medical assessment due to injuries sustained during the incident. The extent of the injuries has not been publicly released.
🚨 Fire Safety Reminder
In light of the incident, Platoon Chief Stephen Vincent is reminding residents to exercise caution when using and discarding smoking materials, which continue to be a leading cause of house fires. He also stressed the importance of calling 9-1-1 immediately at the first sign of fire or smoke.
“Quick reporting and fast response are key to minimizing injuries and damage in any structure fire,” said Vincent.
