NORTH SPIRIT LAKE FIRST NATION – REGIONAL CRIME – A significant drug seizure at the North Spirit Lake First Nation airport has led to the arrest of two individuals, including a 38-year-old Winnipeg man, after police intercepted suspected crack cocaine and Oxycodone valued at more than $260,000 on the street.
On the morning of Sunday, June 15, officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to a call for service at the community’s airport. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two individuals arriving on a flight from Winnipeg were allegedly in possession of illicit substances.
Arrest and Seizure
Following a brief investigation at the scene, NAPS officers arrested one male suspect without incident and seized a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine and Oxycodone. The estimated street value of the drugs seized exceeds $260,000 CAD, marking one of the more significant drug seizures in the community in recent memory.

A second suspect, a 25-year-old woman from North Spirit Lake First Nation, has not yet been formally charged, but police confirm charges are pending as the investigation continues.
FONTAINE appeared in bail court on Monday, June 16, and was remanded into custody with a future court date scheduled.
Investigation Ongoing
NAPS has confirmed the investigation is still active and further details may be released as charges are finalized. Authorities are also encouraging community members to report suspicious activity as part of an ongoing effort to curb drug trafficking in remote Northern Ontario communities.
