High Humidex and High Rain Chances Kick Off the Week

Monday, June 16 – Humid Morning Turns Stormy Afternoon

The morning in Dryden and Vermilion Bay starts off sticky, with a current temperature of 15°C, as reported from the Dryden Airport at 6:00 AM. Skies are partly cloudy, and the atmosphere feels more like a steam room, thanks to 90% humidity and a dew point of 12.9°C. The barometric pressure sits at 101.4 kPa and is holding steady, while winds from the south-southwest at 11 km/h stir the air without bringing much relief. Visibility is at 16 km, though that could dip as the weather rolls in.

The forecast suggests a mainly cloudy day with a 70% chance of showers this afternoon and the risk of a thunderstorm. It will be warm and close with a high of 26°C, which will feel more like 28°C with the humidex. If you’re out and about, don’t be fooled by morning sunshine—those clouds are just waiting to burst. The UV index is 6, so keep your sunscreen handy when the sun does peek through.

Tonight – Thunder Rolls On

The damp, stormy weather continues into tonight with cloudy skies and another 70% chance of showers, plus continued risk of thunderstorms this evening. The temperature will remain fairly warm with a low of 15°C, making it a mild night even if you’re caught in a downpour.

Tuesday, June 17 – Breezy and a Bit Cooler

Tuesday isn’t much drier, but it comes with a shift in wind. Expect mainly cloudy skies with a 40% chance of showers, especially in the afternoon when thunderstorms may reappear. Winds will pick up from the northwest at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 as the day progresses, bringing in cooler air. Temperatures will top out at 20°C, and the UV index ticks up to 7, so be cautious during clearer periods.

Tuesday night will be mostly dry but still under cloudy periods, with a low of 13°C.

Wednesday, June 18 – More Mix, Maybe More Rain

Wednesday keeps us on our toes with a mix of sun and cloud and a 30% chance of showers. Daytime highs will rise again to 25°C, giving a more summer-like feel. Evening conditions stay similar with cloudy periods and another 30% chance of showers. The night will cool slightly to 11°C.

What to Wear

Layer smart! Short sleeves and light pants will help you manage the heat and humidity, but bring a rain jacket or umbrella—you’ll likely need it. Water-resistant shoes won’t hurt either, especially if you’re dodging puddles between errands. And don’t forget UV protection, even under cloudy skies.

Weather Trivia – Thunderstorm Alley of the Northwest

Did you know Dryden sits along one of Ontario’s most thunderstorm-prone corridors? Summer storms here can bring heavy rain and even hail, thanks to humid air masses clashing with cold fronts sweeping in from the Prairies.
