Wildland Forest Wildfire Update

Sudbury – WILDFIRE UPDATE – The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) has confirmed one new wildland fire in Ontario’s Northeast Region today, as fire crews continue to manage conditions under moderate to high fire hazard levels.

New Fire Confirmed
Sudbury 21 (SUD021), a small 0.1-hectare fire, was detected approximately 750 metres east of Highway 529 and about 2 kilometres west of Highway 69—roughly 3 kilometres northeast of Naiscoot Lake. Fire crews have brought the blaze under control.

There are currently three active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. Two are under control, and one is being monitored.

Fire Hazard Conditions
The fire hazard across most of the Northeast remains moderate to high, though the Timmins, Kapuskasing, and Kirkland Lake areas are seeing low fire risk. Residents are encouraged to check Ontario’s Interactive Fire Map for up-to-date local conditions.

Reminder: No Drone Zone
AFFES continues to remind the public that flying drones near forest fires is not only dangerous but also illegal. Drones can interfere with firefighting aircraft, putting both emergency personnel and the public at risk. Always stay clear of active fire zones.

Follow Outdoor Burning Regulations
Residents planning to dispose of brush or yard debris are urged to consider composting or using local landfill options. If outdoor burning is necessary, strict adherence to Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations is required:

  • Fires must be lit no earlier than two hours before sunset and extinguished within two hours after sunrise.

  • Keep fire control tools and water nearby.

  • Check regulations before lighting any fire: Outdoor Burning Regulations
