Wildfire Update

Thunder Bay, ON – June 13, 2025, 08:00 EDT – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has lifted the Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) for zones 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 as of 12:01 a.m. this morning. The decision follows careful evaluation of weather conditions, forecasted precipitation, and fire activity.

Officials expressed appreciation to Ontarians and visitors for their cooperation during the restriction period and emphasized the continued need for caution under Ontario’s Outdoor Fires Regulations.

“Lifting the RFZ doesn’t mean the fire risk has vanished,” said an MNRF spokesperson. “Dry conditions can escalate quickly, and human-caused fires remain a serious threat.”

While the fire danger is largely moderate across the Northwest Region, pockets of high hazard persist. The Far North currently faces a low fire hazard, but fluctuating weather conditions could change this rapidly.

As of Thursday evening (June 12), 21 wildland fires remain active in the region:

  • 7 not under control

  • 1 being held

  • 8 being monitored
